Our Picks (June 24-26)

Ethan I know what you’re thinking- “Ethan, are you crazy putting the sequel to a billion dollar franchise at the number 1 spot this week?!?!” But yes, I am going Cars 2 at the top. Call me reckless or a loose cannon, as long as it’s with respect. Then we’ve got last week’s number one spilling down a spot, and the previous week’s number 1 and last week’s 2 going down to 3. Pretty standard up to there, but it was the last two spots that gave me trouble. Bad Teacher is new, but it’s R-rated. Mr. Popper’s Penguins is only in its second week, but has to compete with its audience for Cars 2. X-Men First Class has been around for four weeks now. In the end, I believed more in the power of talking cars than penguins, and left Popper’s off the list completely.

Evan Even though I disliked the first film, I believe the Cars sequel will top the box office because people are dumb. Also because people are dumb and don’t listen when others say Green Lantern is garbage, that will finish number 2. Super 8 will drop to 3rd based on the transitive property. I was going to put X-Men above Bad Teacher, but there is no senseless shitty comedy out there right now so I think Bad Teacher will make decent money this weekend. Grim week for the movies (although I haven’t seen Super 8). I will not be venturing to the theatres this weekend.
